Travelers will board their last nonstop flight from Boston to Hawaii aboard Hawaiian Airlines this fall, the airline announced on Tuesday.
The airline is suspending nonstop service between Logan International Airport and Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, with the last flight taking place on Nov. 19.
The Boston route, offered four times weekly, is one of three “underperforming” routes being cut, according to the airline. The others are between Honolulu and Incheon, South Korea, and Fukuoka, Japan.
The 5,095-mile route, which took 11 hours and 40 minutes from Boston, began in 2019 and was billed as the longest regularly scheduled domestic route in U.S. history
“It’s always a difficult decision to suspend a route, especially in cities like Seoul, which we have enjoyed serving for over 14 years,” said Joe Sprague, CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, in a statement. “However, despite our team’s best efforts, soft post-pandemic travel demand from Asia combined with various market challenges have persisted in Seoul, as well as in Fukuoka and Boston, both of which we entered in 2019.”
Impacted travelers will be placed on other flights or receive a refund, according to the airline.
Earlier this year, Delta Air Lines suspended its Boston to Hawaii route “to align with consumer demand,” according to AirlineGeeks.com, and the last flight will take place on Nov. 20. Delta launched the nonstop flights between Boston and Honolulu in 2024.
