Travelers should check the status of their flight before heading to Logan Airport on Thursday after a plane and helicopter crashed near Reagan National Airport near Washington D.C. last night.
An American Airlines passenger jet traveling from Wichita, Kansas collided over the Potomac River with a military Blackhawk helicopter while approaching the Reagan Airport runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Massport posted the following alert on its website: “Due to an incident at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, flights may be impacted and passengers are encouraged to check the status of their flight before coming to the airport.”
There were 60 passengers and four crew members on the flight and three soldiers on the helicopter when the incident happened at Reagan Airport last night at around 9 p.m. It is believed that there are no survivors.
Passengers on the flight included figure skaters with ties to the Skating Club of Boston, according to the Associated Press, returning from a development camp that took place after the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita.
Reagan Airport will reopen at 11 a.m., officials said in a press conference on Thursday morning.
