JetBlue will begin flying daily between Boston and northern Maine later this year, the carrier announced on Friday.
JetBlue will launch daily service between Logan International Airport and Presque Isle International Airport in Aroostook County, Maine, which serves the residents of Presque Isle and much of northern Maine and northwestern New Brunswick. The service begins on Sept. 5.
“We thank the U.S. Department of Transportation for selecting JetBlue for this new Essential Air Service route,” Dave Jehn, vice president of network planning and airline partnerships for JetBlue, said in a statement. “We take our responsibility of offering northern Maine reliable, high-quality service seriously, and look forward to introducing the region to our award-winning JetBlue experience.”
For residents of northern Maine and New Brunswick, the service will allow easy same-day travel to Boston. Travelers can also connect to many of the 75 destinations JetBlue serves nonstop from Logan Airport.
Travelers heading to Presque Isle will discover “a destination rich with natural beauty, outdoor adventure, and vibrant local culture,” JetBlue wrote in a press release, including “stunning landscapes” at Aroostook State Park, plus hiking, skiing, fishing, and “the warmth and hospitality of a close-knit community.”
“The City of Presque Isle and Aroostook County are pleased to begin a new chapter in airline service partnering with JetBlue,” said Presque Isle City Council Chair Kevin Freeman, in a statement. “We are eagerly awaiting to experience JetBlue’s renowned innovation and creativity which will expand and grow air travelers’ experiences in our region.”
JetBlue is currently offering $59 one-way fares on JetBlue.com in celebration of the route.
