Fall colors are on their way and three of the best spots nationwide for viewing the leaves are in New England, say USA Today readers.

USA Today recently released a list of the best best places to see fall colors in the U.S, part of its 2024 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, and named three New England destinations: the White Mountains in New Hampshire, Stowe in Vermont, and the Berkshires in Massachusetts.

All of the places on the top 10 list “are ideal for viewing the entire spectrum of fall foliage,” wrote USA Today. The White Mountains in N.H. ranked No. 6; Stowe, Vermont ranked No. 7; and the Berkshires in Massachusetts ranked No. 9 on the list.

The Berkshires celebrates the season with a fall foliage parade that’s been running for nearly seven decades, wrote USA Today, while Stowe offers guided tours, leaf peeping activities, and “really puts on a show.”

About the White Mountains, the top-ranked New England spot, USA Today wrote, “Whether travelers are looking to spend a weekend in a tiny mountain town or wind through the White Mountains on one of many scenic fall itineraries, this New Hampshire spot draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each fall. The views are unparalleled from the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, as well as the Kancamagus Highway, a National Scenic Byway.”

The No. 1 place to see foliage, according to the publication, is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

For the 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards lists, USA Today travel experts select 20 nominees in topics from food to lodging, destinations to things to do. Then the publication asks readers to cast votes to determine the top 10.
