Fall enthusiasts yearning for a New England getaway this season can choose from three regional destinations that “embody that true essence of fall,” according to Airbnb.
The online marketplace for rentals recently posted its 2024 fall trends and named Salem, Mass., Hartford, Vermont, and Bar Harbor, Maine among its “prime” fall destinations across the U.S. They were chosen based on the percentage of stays for the months of September through November 2023 compared to the rest of the year.
Fall is the most affordable season to travel, according to Airbnb, with prices per night at their lowest compared to the rest of the year. And many folks are heading to New England, as evidenced from Massachusetts and Maine ranking among the top three U.S. states with the highest percentage of stays in the fall (the other is North Dakota).
The company shared the following rentals located in the region’s prime fall destinations.
In Hartford, Vermont, folks can book a newly updated luxury house with a hot tub and panoramic views. The house has four bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen, and is less than two miles from historic downtown Quechee.

For a getaway in historic Salem, known for its massive celebration of Halloween, folks can book My Place, a two bedroom condo with parking located one mile from downtown Salem. The condo has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a back deck with a private entry.
Finally, travelers longing for a Maine escape this fall can book Hadley Point Hideaway, a bungalow near Bar Harbor, Maine. The rental, nestled in the woods, has two bedrooms, one bathroom, a high-end kitchen, a loft, and a private deck with sunset views. It is 10 minutes from Bar Harbor and 5 minutes from Acadia National Park.

The Maine city of Bangor was also listed among the most affordable off-season destinations nationwide. When surveying guests, Airbnb found that more than 85 percent of users said price was one of the most important factors when deciding between booking an Airbnb or other accommodation.
