The Cape Cod National Seashore has one of the best beaches in America and now boasts the safest beaches in the nation, according to a new report.

The Action Network released a list of beaches with the lowest risk of theft in America in 2025, and Massachusetts dominated the list with the top four sandy spots: Cape Cod National Seashore, Marconi Beach (part of the Cape Cod National Seashore), Old Silver Beach in Falmouth, and Siasconset Beach on Nantucket. Reid State Park in Maine also made the top 12.

“With summer in full swing, millions of Americans are heading to the coast with friends and family, but crowded beaches can also attract opportunistic thieves,” wrote The Action Network. “Phones, wallets, and bags left unattended while people swim or take a walk are frequent targets, particularly in areas with higher rates of property crime.”

The research team analyzed crime statistics by zip code using CrimeGrade.org to determine theft-related risks in neighborhoods around more than 500 beach destinations across the U.S. The study focused on four areas of crime researchers deemed most relevant to beachgoers: theft, robbery, vehicle theft, and burglary.

The New England beaches and others on the low-risk list (all in Florida) reported the lowest levels of theft-related crime, “making them some of the safest spots to enjoy a worry-free beach day,” according to the report.

The Cape Cod National Seashore is comprised of six beaches: Marconi Beach, Coast Guard Beach, Nauset Light Beach, Head of the Meadow Beach, Race Point Beach, and Herring Cove Beach. Coast Guard Beach was named among the 10 best beaches in the U.S. earlier this year by Dr. Beach.

For the Cape Cod National Seashore, deemed the safest in America, the theft rate is 1.62, the robbery rate is 0.29, vehicle theft rate is 0.47, and the burglary rate is 1.23 per 1,000 residents, according to the report. The implied probability of theft there is 0.95%.

The beach with the highest risk of theft in America is Santa Monica State Beach in California, where the theft rate is 55.22, the robbery rate is 2.48, the vehicle theft rate is 8.91, and the burglary rate is 6.73 per 1,000 residents. The implied probability of theft there is 25.29%.

California and Hawaii each have three beaches on the list of beach destinations with the highest risk of theft. The remainder of the beaches are in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Washington.

Reid State Park in Maine had the lowest robbery rate among all beaches, with just 0.08 per 1,000 residents.
