This baby red panda at Franklin Park Zoo needs a name. Franklin Park Zoo

When you visit Franklin Park Zoo this fall, you could come face-to-face with an animal you helped name.

A red panda cub, born at the zoo on July 6, will make his debut this fall. But before he does, the zoo is asking the public’s help naming him.

The zoo’s red panda caretakers have narrowed the tiny cub’s name down to two options and would like the public to choose the winning moniker. The two names are Gimli and Everest, chosen because Gimli is the “feisty red-headed character” from Lord of the Rings and Everest is the highest peak in the Himalayas, wrote the zoo.

“We are thrilled to announce this exciting birth, and for guests to be able to watch this little one grow and explore when he makes his exhibit debut this fall,” said John Linehan, president and CEO of Zoo New England, in a press release. “This is the second birth for Fia, who has been very attentive to the cub and is doing everything that a new mom should.”

You can cast your vote on Franklin Park Zoo’s Facebook page until Friday at noon.

The winning name will be announced on Friday.
