Never sure what to talk about on the first date? We have two options for you. One: Dorchester Brewing is hosting a board game speed dating event on Tuesday where the emphasis is as much on enjoying new games as it is meeting potential dates. Two: Skip the Small Talk, which hosts dating and friendship-making events, has something going on nearly every day this week. They pick the conversation topics, and you focus on relaxing and being yourself. (Multiple dates, times, and locations; $18.50 to $35)
Each Thursday for the last eight weeks, the Roxbury BPL has been offering a free gentle yoga series. This week is the final class, so hop in while it lasts! The workout is meant to be gentle, with an emphasis on moving your body and clearing your mind. (Thursday, Feb. 27; 5 p.m.; 149 Dudley St., Boston; free)
First Fridays at the MFA? Not this week. Instead it’s Last Thursdays at Harvard Art Museum. Explore more than 50 galleries, make your own art, and embark on a Grecian-themed scavenger hunt hosted by American Repertory Theater. Plus, there’s a prize at the end. (Thursday, February 27 from 5 to 9 p.m.; 32 Quincy St., Cambridge; free)
No, we’re not talking about either of the Jimmys. We’re talking about the only female late night host on network television: Taylor Tomlinson. At only 31-years-old, Tomlinson has graced 30-under-30 lists and had several standout Netflix specials. Her new tour, The Save Me Tour, is stopping at the Boch Theatre for four nights this weekend starting Thursday. The Sunday 1 p.m. show currently has the most available seating options. (Multiple dates and times; 270 Tremont St., Boston; tickets start at $41.90)
It’s officially Oscars season, and time is running out to catch all of the Best Picture noms. “Anora,” a modern, exciting take on the classic Cinderella story, is looking like a strong contender for the W. If it’s still on your list, you can tick it off this Friday night at the MFA. Check out the trailer here. (Friday, Feb. 28 from 7 to 9:30 p.m.; 465 Huntington Ave., Boston; $12 for members, $15 for nonmembers)
A.k.a. Go maple sugaring at the Boston Nature Center. You’ll see and experience the delicious process of making maple syrup from start to finish: Tapping maple trees, collecting the sap, and boiling it down into a sweet treat. Also included: a crash course on New England’s Sugar Maple trees. (Multiple times on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2; 500 Walk Hill St., Boston; $13 for members, $15 for nonmembers)
Consider your Saturday planned. Head to Time Out Market to catch its Mardi Gras-themed drag brunch and bingo. Or make your way over to the Great American Beer Hall for its Mardi Gras bash with jazzy New Orleans-style tunes from local bands. (Saturday, March 1; multiple times and locations; free)
Four local breweries are hosting a beer crawl throughout the week. Visit and get a stamp from each of the following Somerville spots to win a specialty glass: Remnant Brewing, Winter Hill Brewing Co., Aeronaut Brewing Co., and Portico Brewing. This event is part of Mass Beer Week, which goes through March 8, and many breweries across the state are participating. (Starting Friday, February 28; multiple locations)
Sure, Trident Booksellers’ annual Oscars watch party is on Newbury Street instead of Hollywood Boulevard, but we’re sure it’ll be just as fun. Come dressed to impress and ready to play Oscars-related games, win prizes, nibble and sip on themed menu-items, and, of course, watch the awards ceremony. (Sunday, March 2 from 7 to 9:00 p.m.; 338 Newbury St., Boston; free with RSVP)
SIDE Presents is hosting the next edition in its “Estrogina” series on Sunday, Estrogina 007. Think: A networking event for women that isn’t about work. It’s a space to “share knowledge, turn up, and take meaningful action, unapologetically.” There will be music, conversation, activities, and a women-owned marketplace. Suave secret-agent-inspired attire is encouraged. (Sunday, March 2, 3:30 to 9 p.m.; 100 West 2nd St., Boston, $33.85)
