France is typically not a place you’d think to order tacos, but a version of the tortilla-wrapped handheld we all know and love is having a moment in the sophisticated French food scene, a fun New Yorker read reveals. Admittedly “not tacos at all,” French tacos are a grilled, filled fast-food trend that starts with a flour tortilla, which is then filled with meat and condiments and smothered in cheese sauce. Back in Boston, the French Cultural Center is taking this trend to taco expert Colton Coburn-Wood, chef at Cósmica, with a one-night-only French Taco Tuesday at Cósmica. A South End restaurant known for Cali-Mex flavors and corn tortillas, Cósmica is preparing a menu of cross-cultural exchange to match a night meant for conversation. The evening begins with a Parisian Margarita, transported to its namesake city with a dash of the fragrant French liqueur, St-Germain. Chef Coburn-Wood’s French tacos are elevated with duck and pork confit, pommes anna, comté, fennel slaw, and an apple-pear gastrique. They anchor a four-course menu that also includes guacamole and salsa with chips, tuna tartare, and chocolate coconut mousse. Register with a party of two, four, or six to book your own table, or opt for an individual reservation to meet and be seated with others. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test result received within 72 hours prior is required and will be checked at the entrance.
