For Diwali, an annual festival of lights that coincides with the darkest day of the year, celebrants around the world decorate their homes and temples with twinkling lights and decor. Other traditions vary across cultures that celebrate Diwali, but another uniting factor of the illuminated season is the festive food. Shanti Indian Cuisine is sharing a handcrafted menu of Diwali dishes from the Hindu kitchen on Nov. 2 and Nov. 4. The family-style feast features favorites like chicken kofta or mushroom mattar, maggi tikki (a pan-fried potato patty served with chutney), and slow-cooked dum biryani, plus options for omnivores and vegans. Order for two or four people — but don’t skip the $20-extra box of mithai, or Indian sweets traditionally shared during Diwali. Shanti’s Mithai Box includes an assortment of mango kaju katli (cashew and mango dessert), mohini roll (a nutty shell filled with almond paste), and more. Send some light to family and friends this season: You can pre-order Nov. 2 or Nov. 4 delivery within DoorDash range of Shanti’s Dorchester and Roslindale restaurants. How’s that for a sweet way to brighten someone’s day?
