When the MLS playoffs open in November, the New England Revolution will be considered a favorite in their quest to capture the franchise’s first championship — but, before then, they’ll get a test from one of the clubs that could be waiting should Bruce Arena’s team play for the MLS Cup. With just six losses in their first 29 contests, the Colorado Rapids have established themselves as one of the Western Conference’s top-three teams, and should present the Revolution with a worthy tune-up in penultimate game of the regular season. New England could use the test, too; after Colorado comes in, its only match until the conference semifinals will be against lowly Inter Miami on Nov. 7. The earliest the Revolution would play a semifinal would be Nov. 25, so the Rapids game will represent their only real playoff prep over the month leading into that single-elimination exam. That could make an already appealing matchup that much more intense and entertaining for those in attendance.
