Boston’s Wicked Queer Film Festival returns this spring, with a full lineup of in-person and online films. Founded in 1984 by film programmer George Mansour, Wicked Queer is the fourth longest-running LGBTQ+ film festival in North America.
Last year, the festival virtually screened around 150 films in 45 programs throughout April—this year, the festival kicks off with an opening night at the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square. For a week and a half, Wicked Queer will screen films in Boston locations and online, for those who prefer. The volunteer-run festival celebrates and uplifts queer voices and stories, strengthening the community and preserving “the vibrancy of our histories,” says their website.
The festival’s jurors will award Best Narrative Feature and Best Documentary Feature. Audience awards include Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, and Best in Show Short Film. To stay updated on screenings and awards, sign up for the festival’s newsletter.
Other film screenings throughout the festival will happen at the Brattle, the ICA, and the Bright Family Screening Room at the Paramount Theater. The full lineup of features, shorts, documentaries, and throwback films is below.
