The annual Boston Parks Summer Fitness Series returns this season, kicking off with two free workout classes on Thursday, June 2. Starting at 5:30 p.m. two consecutive workout classes will run in Copley Square, and attendees will receive a free giveaway item. Registration is required for this free event.
Each summer, Boston’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) present the Summer Fitness Series, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. Classes are held at select public parks around the city, and are also broadcast online, and include yoga, HIIT, Zumba, Afrobeats dance, and more.
Summer Series classes run from June 5 through Oct. 1, (excluding July 4 and Labor Day) and in past years, have included 25 different classes a week in various neighborhoods. Through these free and open classes, BPHC aims to reduce barriers to healthy living and get Boston residents outside and utilizing public parks during the warm months.
“Fitness classes in parks across Boston offer a chance for regular physical activity that is critical to a healthy lifestyle,” said Jeff Bellows, vice president of corporate citizenship and public affairs at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, in a statement. “We want to make it easy and fun to get outside and be active, and we’re thrilled to be working with the city to offer classes for folks of all ages, abilities, and interests.”
