Pop-Up Pride

Join the LGBTQ community and allies on June 12 for Pop-Up Pride on the Boston Common for a day of “celebrating all LGBTQ+ identities, honoring the work of our ancestors, and giving back to our Boston community,” according to the event site.

Starting at 11 a.m., the event will have a rally, followed by a festival complete with food, music, and performances.

Pop-Up Pride is a one-time event organized in the wake of the dissolution of Boston Pride in 2021.

“… We seek to reclaim a Pride that not only belongs to the community, but serves the entirety of the LGBTQ+ community–especially Greater Boston’s communities of Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous, people of color (QTBIPOC),” the event site says.

Pop-Up Pride was organized pretty recently, according to Jo Trigilio, who was involved in the planning process. Trigilio said a diverse group of community leaders and members have spent the last three months preparing.

“It’s a simple back to basics Pride festival on the Boston Common,” Trigilio said. “I’m actually really excited to see people gathering together for a day on the Boston Common and without a lot of corporate logos. That’s what makes me happy, I think that’s what’s gonna make everybody happy — a gathering of community on the Boston Common.”

The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. will have a space for youth activities and gathering, a family area and quiet area.

“It’s always amazing to me that when you do a grassroots effort, and people believe in what you’re doing, they just come out of the woodwork and help. I am so moved by all the support we’re getting,” Trigilio said. “It’s just really, really, really heartwarming.”
