Over the course of the 2021 season, the Revolution set the standard all other Major League Soccer teams were chasing. Not only did New England claim the Supporters’ Shield, but its total of 73 reestablished the league record for points in a season.
Now the Revs set out to validate that success.
New England actually opens play in Foxborough with a two-game Concacaf series leg against the Haitian club AS Cavaly, then begins MLS play a week in Portland during the last week of February, but the Revs then bring MLS action back to Gillette Stadium on March 5, welcoming FC Dallas for a Saturday matinee.
Last year, Dallas struggled to compete — yet it was one of the few teams to get the better of New England. FDC hadn’t won in nearly two months when the Revolution came to town in late June, but it managed a 2-1 victory that triggered New England’s biggest slump of the season. That defeat marked the start of the Revolution’s only three-game winless streak of 2021; after that mini-skid, they lost only once more before November.
Dallas has since sacked its coach, and will be in the early stages of a transition as it arrives in Foxborough. That, combined with the fact the Revolution will have played three times prior to FDC’s arrival, after embarking on their preseason trip to train in Los Angeles, should give the locals a good chance to get the home slate off to a good start.
Individual tickets to the home opener, and other single-game tickets, will be available starting Feb. 1. Season memberships are also available.
