Go skating with Wally and Tessie on the Frog Pond

Join the Red Sox mascots on the Boston Common -- for free skating, free skates, and free hot chocolate.

Wally and Tessie, the Red Sox’ monstrous mascots, are going skating. And they’re looking for friends to join them.

The pair is planning a glide around Boston Common’s Frog Pond on Thursday, Feb. 10, and those wishing to join them can do so simply by signing up for one of three 45-minute time slots. The first is from 5:30-6:15 p.m., the second from 6:30-7:15, and the third from 7:30-8:15.

Perhaps best of all, the event is free — including skate rental and concessions, which will include hot dogs, water, and hot chocolate. Families will have a chance to win a prize pack from the event’s presenting sponsor, L.L.Bean, with a plush throw blanket, a family snowman kit, and pom hats.

This is the fourth time the Red Sox have held this event, which is open to the public. Registration must be done ahead of time through the Red Sox website, and closes at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Skaters 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

There was no official word on any age restrictions for monsters.
