The Martini Hatch Shell on Truman Parkway will be home to a community-wide celebration of Juneteenth on June 18, complete with performances, exhibits, and vendors.
Kicking off “Juneteenth Joy: Focus on Freedom” at 10:55 a.m. is a speaking program, including a celebration of former Boston Mayor Kim Janey and remarks from Mayor Michelle Wu.
The keynote address will be given by Segun Idowu, Boston’s chief of economic opportunity and inclusion, and the mistresses of ceremonies are City Councilors at-large Ruthzee Louijeune and Julie Meija.
Following the speaking program, from 12:15 through the end of the event, is the “Field Program,” which will feature a number of fun activities for children and adults alike.
There will be hourly giveaways, dance lessons, paint kits for children, field games, drumming lessons, and more, all to celebrate Juneteenth. Free food samples will also be available for all — including from Zaz Restaurant, Las Columbias, Manyi Juices, and Cappy’s Pizza, among others, according to the event site.
The Ben and Jerry’s ice cream truck will feature special flavors named for Chance the Rapper ( Mint Chocolate Chance) and Colin Kaepernick (Change the Whirld).
