Kick off the weekend of Juneteenth with a rally and march taking attendees through Roxbury on Friday, June 17. The march promises to showcase “Black brilliance and Black resilience,” according to the event site.
The 1.6-mile march, hosted by The Nubian Square Foundation, will begin at 120 MLK Blvd. and end at Blair Lot in Nubian Square. Along the way, marchers will see examples of Black culture, heritage, and brilliance.
“Juneteenth has become not only a time to commemorate Black liberation from the institution of slavery, but also a time to highlight the resilience, solidarity, and culture of the Black community. It is a time for Black Americans to reflect on their ancestral roots. And a time for ALL Americans to celebrate those freedoms,” the event site reads.
The march is just the start of a three-day series of events planned by Juneteenth Boston and The Nubian Square Foundation, along with a whole host of other partners. Saturday brings a Juneteenth Beach Day at Carson Beach in Dorchester. From 1 to 7 p.m., beachgoers can take advantage of free food, music, and more, according to the event site.
And to wrap up the weekend is the Juneteenth Royalty Gala starting at 7 p.m. in the Bruce C. Bolling Building.
