Bruins bringing the fight to cancer, and the Carolina Hurricanes

Participating in the NHL's annual initiative, B's will look to raise money and awareness for cancer research and patients.

NOTE: This event was originally scheduled for Dec. 21, but has been rescheduled for Feb. 10.

The Bruins haven’t been particularly good on their home ice lately. But they’ll be doing some good when they take to the TD Garden rink on Feb. 10.

A win over the Carolina Hurricanes would be a nice pre-holiday treat for the sellout crowd, but the bigger mission of the evening will be contributing to the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer Night, which is presented locally by Tufts Children’s Hospital, and aims to raise money and awareness for the battle against the disease.

Fans attending the game will have the chance to personalize purple “I Fight For” cards during the first period, then display them during a moment of recognition later in the game. Fans at home can participate remotely by downloading their own “I Fight For” sign, and printing it on their own.

Tickets on the team-certified realm of the secondary market were going for a minimum of $60 a week before the puck drops — though ticket holders who can’t make the game have an option other than to sell. The team has arranged a process through which fans can donate their tickets to local cancer patients and families by simply following a series of steps in the account where their tickets are held.

Those looking to donate don’t need to attend the game, either. A link to donate, as well as more information about the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, are available through the NHL’s site.
