Brookline’s U.S. Open ‘experience’ isn’t just for the pros

The USGA's First Tee program will host a Junior Experience while the best in the world compete at The Country Club.

Brookline will be the epicenter of the golf world for four days in June – and it’s not just the pros and participants in the U.S. Open who’ll have a chance to partake in the excitement.

While the national champion is being determined over at The Country Club, Fisher Hill Reservoir Park will play host to the U.S. Open Junior Experience, which is a free event presented in partnership with the U.S. Golf Association’s First Tee program. Like the tournament, it will run from June 16-19. Unlike the tournament, though, attendance does not require a ticket.

According to organizers, First Tee’s mission is “to empower young people to become game changers in their communities,” and the Junior Experience is an annual feature in the city playing host to the Open. The highlights of this year’s experience are set to include an “Aim for Greatness” digital target game, the “Winning Path” putting challenge, a snow cone station, photo opportunities, and the chance to have your swing recorded using 4-dimensional technology. Attendees can also participate in golf games and activities, or, of course, relax and watch coverage of the action unfolding about a mile and a half across town.

The Junior Experience will be open on Thursday and Friday (June 16-17) of tournament week from 2-8 p.m. Over the weekend (June 18-19) the hours expand, with the Experience open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the general public.
