Jeff Hafley has been Boston College’s head football coach for the past two seasons, and by signing a contract extension in November he committed to steering the program through another five years. On April 9, BC fans will have a first-hand chance to check in on the Eagles’ progression.
After 15 spring practices, Hafley’s team will hold its annual spring game, and for the first time during his regime the event will be open to fans at Alumni Stadium. Kicking off at 11 a.m., it’ll also be televised on the ACC Network.

The exhibition will be the Eagles’ first game since Thanksgiving weekend because COVID complications canceled its scheduled trip to the Military Bowl in late December. As a result, BC finished the 2021 season with a bad taste in its mouth, losing its last two, and plummeting to the bottom of the ACC Atlantic division. Overall, the Eagles finished 6-6 after a 4-0 start.
Part of the reason for BC’s uneven season was an injury to quarterback Phil Jurkovec that cost him much of the campaign, but he returned late in the year, and has been leading the offense through practices this spring.
There was some speculation that Jurkovec could explore the possibility of going pro early, and declaring for the NFL Draft, but instead he committed to returning for another year. Joining him this fall will be a recruiting class that was in December rated as the nation’s 24th-best, and is being hailed as possibly the program’s best since 2004.
All that considered, BC’s football program appears to be proceeding in the right direction. And, soon enough, Eagle fans can go to Alumni Stadium to see the progress for themselves.
