The history of cocktails is a fascinating one, with many fascinating origin stories still little-known outside of the close-knit mixology community. As part of Black History Month, the Boston.com Cocktail Club will travel more than 100 years back in time to learn from Tom Bullock’s “The Ideal Bartender,” the first African American authored cocktail book ever. Join host Jackson Cannon (The Hawthorne, Eastern Standard) and guest bartenders Kyisha Davenport (Bar Noir Boston), Marsha Lindsey (SRV), and Tersillia Valentini (Bar Mezzana) as they teach you how to make a classic Brandy Julep and the more modern Branching Out, a mezcal-forward drink created by Davenport. Attending the Zoom is free, and you can find a full list of necessary ingredients here. — Kevin Slane
As a contemporary art gallery located in Boston, Pellas Gallery’s mission is to discover the best emerging artists with a focus on local talent as well as showcase global talent. Mission accomplished with “New Horizons,” its upcoming show of the latest art concept — non-fungible token (NFTs). Translation: one-of-a-kind digital assets that could be anything digital — music, tweets, videos, or in this case, works of art. This exhibit is one place where it’s OK (in fact, expected) for you to be on your smartphone. Each work will be displayed at the gallery in high detail on large canvases with a QR code in the corner describing the artist and value. — Cheryl Fenton
During his first touring show since 2019, Darius Rucker played the Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota amphitheater clad in his typical t-shirt and ball cap. The laidback nature of Rucker’s performances, and perhaps his personality overall, may explain his success — twice — in the music world. If his name sounds familiar, it’s because Rucker used to be the frontman for Hootie and the Blowfish, the popular 1990s rock group. Rucker will likely bring tunes both old and new to Boston when he performs at the Wang Theatre on Thursday at 8 p.m. His recent shows have featured both classics like “Let Her Cry” and cuts from his reggae-tinged country album “Beers and Sunshine.” — Arianna MacNeill
Born in Boston in 1948 and raised on Mission Hill, Donna Summer went on to become a worldwide legend, with chart-smashing hits throughout her career. After stints in musical theater in Germany and Austria, like a role in the musical “Hair,” Summer began recording music in the ‘70s to international acclaim, returning to the States and claiming her place as the “Queen of Disco.” “Summer: The Donna Summer Musical,” released to cult hit status on Broadway, now heads out on tour and follows the life and rise to fame of the “Queen of Disco.” The dazzling musical is currently in Boston at the Emerson Colonial Theater for a two-week run through March 6. — Natalie Gale
They’ve been around the progressive metal scene for decades. Now, Dream Theater will bring their riffs to Wang Theater this Friday. A recent show in Cincinnati featured the group playing the entirety of their 1999 album “Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory,” and received glowing reviews. It’s also possible that the group will entertain Boston with songs from its newest album, “A View From The Top Of The World.” — Arianna MacNeill
When Disney on Ice returns to Boston’s TD Garden, there’s always cause for celebration. Aptly named “Let’s Celebrate,” the party of the century lights up the ice Feb. 23 to 27 with 14 classic and modern Disney stories in one epic production. This monumental ice-skating spectacular of award-winning figure skaters, high-energy choreography, and breathtaking sets delivers audiences straight into the magic that only Disney can create. Mouse-ter of Ceremonies Mickey Mouse leads a parade of more than 50 beloved characters, starring Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and an ensemble of Disney Princesses (hello, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel, Snow White, and Tiana). The wintry wonderland of Disney’s Frozen comes to life with Anna, Elsa, and the hilarious Olaf, along with exciting moments from “Finding Dory,” “Aladdin,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” With more than 30 melodious masterpieces such as “Let It Go,” “You’ve Got A Friend in Me,” and “Hakuna Matata,” this is the ultimate Disney fan experience. — Cheryl Fenton
Starting this Saturday, the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover will offer visitors an unconventional look at famed modernist Georgia O’Keeffe. While O’Keeffe is most well-known for her paintings of flowers, landscapes, and skyscrapers, she was also an accomplished photographer. The Addison exhibit, which is free for all visitors, will showcase her camera skills, featuring more than 100 of her photographs alongside some of the paintings and drawings that were inspired by them. — Kevin Slane
Steven Page was the co-founder, main songwriter, and primary vocalist of the multi-platinum selling Canadian pop-rock group Barenaked Ladies, who released their debut album in 1992 and entered the Canadian Music Hall of Fame 26 years later. Page’s distinctive voice lent humor, poignancy, thoughtfulness, and pep to BNL’s many memorable songs, including “One Week,” “Brian Wilson,” and “The Old Apartment.” Page released his first solo album, “The Vanity Project,” with friend and Duran Duran original member Stephen Duffy in 2005. Since leaving Barenaked Ladies in 2009, he has recorded three more: “Page One” (2010), “Heal Thyself Pt. 1: Instinct” (2016), and “Discipline: Heal Thyself, Pt. II” (2018). Between those and BNL hits, he will have plenty from which to select when he entertains fans from atop City Winery’s main stage this Saturday at 8 p.m. — Blake Maddux
Dorchester Brewing will be throwing an all-day masquerade party in celebration of Mardi Gras, and you should definitely join in on the fun. Anyone with a masquerade mask will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card and some apparel, and if that doesn’t give you sufficient reason to go, Dorchester Brewing is also releasing a new barrel-aged tripel just for the party. M&M BBQ, the on-site restaurant, will also be cooking up some Mardi Gras specials, and from 4 to 7 p.m. there will be a Pączki pop-up as well. Who wouldn’t want some barbecue and donuts with a side of jazz on a late February day? — Joel Ang
At MIDA restaurant, chef Douglass Williams’s mission is to build community through hospitality. At nearby wine shop The Urban Grape, founder and co-owner TJ Douglas’s goal is the same. In honor of Black History Month, the two local leaders are joining forces this Sunday with a three-course take-out meal paired with wine and a conversation about the hospitality industry, their culinary passions, and the importance of education and Black leadership. Boston’s Chief of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, Segun Idowu, joins Williams and Douglas for the livestreamed talk. One hundred percent of ticket sales are going to the Steppingstone Foundation, a local organization committed to improving educational opportunities and access for young people from historically marginalized populations. Tickets include a three-course brunch for two people by MIDA, a half-bottle of wine selected by The Urban Grape, and access to the conversation live on Zoom. The food menu features a winter insalata supremo with candied citrus and gem lettuce; eggplant parmesan; and tiramisu with mascarpone mousse. Brunch packages with the wine pairing are available for pickup at both the Newton and South End locations of MIDA. — Jacqueline Cain
