ArtsEmerson is presenting “Dreaming Zenzile,” a musical based on the life of Miriam Makeba, at the Emerson Paramount Center at the end of the month.

Miriam Makeba was a South African singer, songwriter, United Nations goodwill ambassador, and civil rights activist. The world-premier tour of the show based on her life and music is in Boston for five performances.

“Dreaming Zenzile” is a modern jazz play that serves as “an electrifying portrait of a revolutionary artist’s singular voice and vision,” according to ArtEmerson’s description of the show. Framed around her final concert, on the eve of her death, it follows her on a spiritual journey of reconciliation through her music and fractured memories of her past.
