See Wynonna Judd go beyond country in Fall River

Judd will dip into blues and gospel in addition to her country hits when she visits the Narrows Center on Dec. 16.

It’s hard to imagine anyone not taking a break from work for 27 years, but for Wynonna Judd, her last break had been in 1994 when her son Elijah was born.

When the pandemic turned the world on its head, Judd was finally forced to slow down — but she also spent time in reflection and with music, she told Taste of Country in November last year.

“So this time at home has given me a chance to reestablish my life, my boundaries, my dreams, my hopes,” she told the publication. “I think it was an important time for me to stop and to not only appreciate where I was, but appreciate where I’m at right this minute, this day, this breath, this heartbeat.”

Now that live music has made its triumphant return, Judd is set to play the Narrows Center on Dec. 16.

Judd’s career spans 34 years, and began alongside her mother as the duo The Judds. She’s received dozens of awards, and sold millions of records all over the world.

Judd’s performance comes nearly a year after she released her latest EP, “Recollections.” It includes a variety of covers, with Judd taking on on the Grateful Dead, Fats Domino, Slim Harpo, John Prine, and Nina Simone.

Like the varied selection on her EP, Judd’s latest performances include different genres, from country, obviously, to blues and gospel, according to The Spokesman-Review. Judd had just performed at the Bing Crosby Theater in Spokane in January 2020 when the pandemic hit. This particular show ended with a singalong to “Love Can Build a Bridge.”

“That was worth the trip right there,” Judd told the crowd. “Thank you for the gift of tonight.”
