Legendary British rock band The Who announced their final tour of North America this week, with their “The Song is Over” tour including an August stop at Fenway Park.

“Well, all good things must come to an end,” said Pete Townshend — one half of what is now a musical duo consisting of guitarist Townshend and lead singer Roger Daltrey — in a statement. “It is a poignant time. For me, playing to American audiences and those in Canada has always been incredible.

“Roger and I are in a good place, despite our age, eager to throw our weight behind this fond farewell to all our faithful fans, and hopefully to new ones who might jump in to see what they have been missing for the last 57 years,” Townshend wrote. “This tour will be about fond memories, love and laughter.”

The Who — consisting originally of Daltrey, Townshend, bassist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon — was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and the U.K. Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Townshend and Daltrey also accepted the first Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement in Live Music Award in 2006 and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys in 2001.

“Every musician’s dream in the early ’60s was to make it big in the U.S. charts,” said Daltrey in a statement. “For The Who, that dream came true in 1967 and our lives were changed forever. The warmth of the American audiences over the years have been inspirational to me.”
