Indian singer-songwriter, electronic musician, and record producer Ritviz is based almost 8,000 miles away from Boston in Goa, India. But his 2022 tour brings him all the way to Somerville, where he will be performing at the Crystal Ballroom on Oct. 17.

His unique style of fusing Indian classical music with EDM (electronic dance music) has been immensely popular, and he made the Forbes India 30 under 30 list in 2021.

Ritviz rose to fame with his song “Udd Gaye,” which won a talent hunt competition organized by A.I.B. and Nucleya. He has come a long way from that, becoming the most streamed independent artist in India on Spotify in 2021, according to Rolling Stone.

He has appeared at EDC Las Vegas, Sunburn Festival, the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, Zomaland by Zomato and YouTube Fanfest.

From having performed alongside Katy Perry, Diplo, and Dua Lipa, to remixing songs with Lauv and Major Lazer, to having his music featured in the Marvel series “Ms. Marvel,” Ritviz’s reach extends far beyond his native India into the rest of the world.

Diversifying his exposure, particularly when it comes to music for film and television, has been key to expanding the reach of his music, according to Ritviz.

“What every independent artist needs to realize … is that while distribution is a click away, the key is marketing. Film music is marketed on the back of blockbuster movies, synced to visuals which accentuate the user experience and build relatability — it’s the complete package,” Ritviz said in an interview with The New Indian Express.
