Accomplished singer-songwriter Crys Matthews is bringing her emotional and topical music to Cambridge where she will play an intimate show at Club Passim August 3.

Matthews has showed off her genre-blending sound — combining elements of folk, blues and funk and other influences — at numerous folk festivals, and she won Lincoln Center’s 2017 NewSong Music and Performance grand prize.

Hailed as “The next Woody Guthrie,” Matthews released both the thoughtful The Imagineers album and the social justice-influenced EP Battle Hymn for an Army of Lovers in 2017.

Her most recent effort, 2021’s Changemakers, is a hope-fueled social justice album realized in the midst of Black Lives Matter, COVID-19 and the MeToo movement.

The song “Changemakers” landed Matthews 2021 song of the year at May’s International Folk Music Awards.
