Drawing from the African diaspora, Ron Savage, dean of the Professional Performance Division at Berklee College of Music, is leading an evening of Black American Music Feb. 10.

Savage, an experienced jazz and blues drummer, is joined by a trio of Berklee professors and special guests, including Bill Pierce, Bobby Broom, and Gabrielle Goodman — a saxophonist, guitarist, and singer, respectively. Beyond Savage, the professors involved in “Sound of Soul” are Ron Mahdi and Consuelo Candelaria-Barry.

The event will touch on jazz, soul, and the spiritual roots of Black American Music. The event is open in person to Berklee community members, but is live streamed for others who want to watch.
