Dance and sing to the joyful sounds of Lawrence at Royale

If there was another word for joy, it might be Lawrence.

And they’re clearly bringing it to Boston.

Lawerence’s latest album “Hotel TV” is a great example of their joyful sound. – Lawrence

The eight-piece, New York-based, soul-pop band — formed by brother and sister duo Clyde Lawrence and Gracie Lawrence — is playing two nights at the Royale, with the second show added soon after fans quickly swooped in to sell out the first.

Lawrence’s latest album, “Hotel TV” is saturated with joyful jams that make it easy to see why they’re so magnetic.

The group’s third release wears its influences on its sleeve while ushering in modern flair all its own.

“Clyde Lawrence and Gracie Lawrence have been writing songs and listening to countless Stevie Wonder, Randy Newman, and Aretha Franklin records in their family’s New York City apartment since they were little kids,” the band’s website says. “After years of playing together, they officially created Lawrence, an eight-piece soul-pop band comprised of musician friends from childhood and college [including 29-year-old Waltham native and guitarist Jonny Koh]. The band has since gained a devoted following for its high-energy, keyboard-driven sound, which features tight, energetic horns, explosive lead vocals, and fully-live arrangements.”

Since its inception in 2015, Lawrence has opened for some big names: Blues Traveler, Vulfpeck, and Boston-grown Lake Street Dive.
