Rock and Roll Hall of Famer John Fogerty will perform as part of Quincy’s 400th anniversary celebration on Sunday, Aug. 3, the Quincy 400 committee announced Wednesday.
Fogerty, frontman for the iconic 1960s and ’70s rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, will be accompanied by Hearty Har, a band that includes Fogerty’s two sons.
“John Fogerty is a voice that defined a generation. He is an icon and we are proud to have him and Darius Rucker join the people of Quincy in proudly celebrating 400 years of progress in this incredible city,” said Mayor Thomas Koch in a statement.
The presale is available now through April 11 at 10 a.m., which is when the general sale opens. For access, sign up to the Quincy 400 newsletter.
Over a 50-plus-year career, Fogerty has stretched his talents over writing, singing and producing. Some of his hits with Creedence Clearwater Revival include “Born on the Bayou,” “Green River” and “Proud Mary,” which he followed with several solo hits in the 1980s, like “Centerfield” and “The Old Man Down The Road.”
The two-time Grammy Award winner has been recognized among the 100 Greatest Guitarists, 100 Greatest Songwriters and 100 Greatest Singers by Rolling Stone. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and, for the impact of “Centerfield,” the Baseball Hall of Fame (the only musician to hold that honor).
Fogerty is also a best-selling author with his memoir “Fortunate Son: My Life, My Music,” which was published in 2015.
