Go hardcore — but melodic! — with Converge Bloodmoon at Roadrunner in April

The collaboration of Converge and Chelsea Wolfe is set to play April 9.

Converge Bloodmoon Handout

The hardcore band Converge has been around since 1990, and for their latest album, the group, which actually formed in Boston, wanted to do something different.

So they converged (pun intended) with singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe, and the result was “Bloodmoon: I,” released in November last year.

“We wanted to do something grander than the typical four-piece Converge music,” Converge vocalist Jacob Bannon said of the album, according to Epitaph.

The result is the raw vocals of Bannon mixed with the ethereal, melodic nature of Wolfe’s voice over racing guitars.

Converge and Wolfe are set to perform together at Roadrunner at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.

New Noise magazine gave the album a five-star review.

“After listening to ‘Bloodmoon: I,’ one gets the feeling that you’re listening to a completely new band, one that is more than the sum of its seven talented parts,” the reviewer wrote. “It’s jaw dropping how well all these divergent styles fit seamlessly and flawlessly together. This is something special created by a group of individuals coming together to form something new and exciting, making it  one of the best heavy rock albums of the year.”

Metal Injection gave the album a 9 of 10.

“Still don’t know if I’d call it Converge’s tenth album as much as I would Bloodmoon’s first,” the reviewer wrote. “Either way, it’s just good music which ultimately transcends all the semantics, nit-picking, nomenclature and all that bullsh—. And until the argument kicks up again on the occasion of ‘Bloodmoon: II,’ that’s all that really matters.”
