Editor’s note: This show was rescheduled from its original date of Aug. 14 due to a “positive COVID test,” according to the band.
If you’re of a certain age, there’s a likelihood that Debbie Harry of Blondie might have been your first celebrity crush — between talent, attitude, and sex appeal (not to mention one of the best Muppet Show hosting gigs ever), she had it all back in the late 1970s. And guess what? She still does.
Besides influencing everyone from the Go-Gos to The Regrettes and basically every other female-fronted rock combo that came in between, Blondie has recorded quality new material as recently as 2017, which saw the release of the group’s excellent album “Pollinator” (a mere 41 years after their self-titled debut record). Songs like “Long Time” perfectly combined their new wave bonafides with a decisively modern sound.
Not one to rest on their laurels, last year the band was the subject of “Blondie: Vivir En La Habana,” a short film capturing their 2019 concert in Havana, Cuba. And later this summer we’ll see the band release a massive archival boxed set entitled “Against The Odds.”
As if the music weren’t enough, this summer the band will also be starring in its very own 180-page graphic novel. Featuring an oral history of the band “interspersed with artistic interpretations of 10 songs from their catalog,” it’s available in standard, deluxe, and super-deluxe editions (naturally). Oh, and it’s also called “Against The Odds” — which just happens to be the name of the band’s summer tour as well.
Blondie’s Against The Odds Tour is slated to stop in Boston this August, wherein Harry — who will be 77 (!) by then — will once again have the opportunity to show how she hasn’t lost a step. British proto-punk rockers The Damned will join Blondie for the gig at Leader Bank Pavilion Aug. 14.
