He may have passed on in January, but you can still experience Meat Loaf’s hit songs as performed by The Neverland Express, along with American Idol winner Caleb Johnson, at the only show that was officially endorsed by the legendary “Bat Out of Hell” singer.
The Neverland Express includes alumni of Meat Loaf’s official band. Led by his record producer, music director, and guitarist Paul Crook (who is also producing this show), it also features drummer John Miceli and guitarist Randy Flowers.
The band manages to stay true to the original recordings while delivering the excitement of a live Meat Loaf show. That’s in large part due to singer Caleb Johnson, winner of “American Idol” season 13, who delivers his own unique stamp to classic Meat Loaf songs like “Bat Out of Hell,” “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” and “I Would Do Anything For Love.”
“Back in the spring of 2018, Meat Loaf had kind of taken an indefinite hiatus from touring. His musical director, Paul Cook, wanted to keep the band working,” Johnson told the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch. “Meat Loaf, who was really gracious, said yes, and with his blessing, Paul reached out to me, and we’ve been doing the show ever since.”
They will be performing at City Winery Boston on Oct. 14.
