Hear the pop-rock sound of Joseph at City Winery

The Oregon-based trio is set to take the stage on April 5-6.

Three sisters, one Joseph. As in the band Joseph.

Now that we’ve cleared that up, the Oregon-based trio is set to bring their storytelling and pop/rock sounds to the City Winery stage at 8 p.m. on April 5 and April 6.

The band is made up of Natalie Closner Schepman and Allison and Meegan Closner. The band is named for their hometown of Joseph, Oregon, and for their grandfather Jo, according to Northwest Music Scene. At the time, the publication was reviewing Joseph’s concert at The Showbox in Seattle during September 2019. That performance began with “In My Head,” “Canyon,” and “Green Eyes.”

“Everyone was invested in the performance right away, I guess it is hard to look away when something sounds so incredibly real,” the reviewer from Northwest wrote. “By the fourth song Natalie had lost a hoop earring and grabbed the other that was still holding on to her short curls.”

The band first made a splash in 2016, when their song “White Flag” reached the top of Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart. The album it came from, “I’m Alone, No You’re Not,” hit the top 10 of both the alternative and rock charts that year.

The band’s last studio album was 2019’s “Good Luck, Kid.”

“The through-line of the album is this idea of moving into the driver’s seat of your own life — recognizing that you’re the adult now, and everything’s up to you from this moment on,” says Natalie. “You’re not completely sure of how to get where you need to go, and you don’t have any kind of a map to help you. It’s just the universe looking down on you like, ‘Good luck, kid.’”
