February 1 marks the beginning of Black History month and the Boston Public Library is having a litany of online and in-person events to commemorate the occasion.

On Feb. 28 author Linda Hirshman will discuss her book “The Color of Abolition: How a Printer, a Prophet, and a Contessa Moved a Nation.”

“The overturning of slavery was an astonishing historical achievement, a crucial landmark in moral progress,” reads the event’s description. “Chronicling its origins in the Second Great Awakening, Linda Hirshman shows how the movement was fraught with tensions from within.”
