Who are Boston fans rooting for more at their new gig – Tom Brady or Mookie Betts? – @Vonstradamus (via Twitter)

This is a good one.  You know, after some thought, I think it’s Mookie. I hear from a few Sox fans that still think he wouldn’t have signed here, but for the most part people are ticked off that a generational player was dealt away in the heart of his prime. And now that the Sox truly stink, it’s even easier to pull for him, in the sense that the Sox are getting what they deserve. Plus, the Dodgers have a lot of ties to the Red Sox – Dave Roberts is the manager, popular Sox players like Manny Ramirez, Nomar Garciaparra, Derek Lowe, and Bill Mueller all went on to play there, and that franchise is a kindred spirit in terms of loathing the Yankees.

With Brady, it’s a little more complicated. Some people, wrongly, think the Patriots stuck it to him by not bringing him back. Clearly Bill Belichick was more than fine with moving on, but you know, so was Brady. I get a lot of messages from people whenever we write about Brady saying to the effect of, “Who cares, he’s the Bucs QB now, stick to the Patriots.” That is, of course, foolish – Brady is always going to be of great interest here – but there is undoubtedly a large element of Patriots fans who are either indifferent to what he does or are at least acting like they don’t care how he fares.

It seems to me that Mookie has a broader base of support right now from New England sports fans and they’re rooting more for him. But we’ll see how it goes once Brady starts playing actual games in that weird Bucs uniform.

What does everyone else think? Who are Boston fans rooting for more to succeed, Tom Brady or Mookie Betts? I’ll hear you in the comments.
