Boston College is less than four miles from Fenway Park. Notre Dame is located approximately 800 miles away from Yawkey Way. But the Fighting Irish (9-1) will officially be the home team when they kick off against the Eagles (3-7) in a college football game on Saturday night at the home of the Red Sox.

The game is part of Notre Dame’s Shamrock Series. As part of the ongoing series, Notre Dame has played a “home-away-from-home game’’ every year since 2009. In past years, Notre Dame has played Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2013, the Fighting Irish played Arizona State University at A&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

For this year’s installment, Notre Dame selected Fenway Park.

In addition to the game at Fenway, the series also brings a “full slate of Notre Dame-themed events’’ to Boston, including an evening with the Boston Pops on Friday and the Shamrock Series 5K on Saturday.

Notre Dame is 13-9 all time against Boston College. The winner Saturday will take home the Ireland Trophy.
