This Boston frisbee player’s layout grab made SportsCenter’s Top Plays
Miles Montgomery-Butler went fully horizontal.
The Boston Whitecaps player made a diving catch in the Whitecaps’ 21-16 win over the Philadelphia Spinners in Major League Ultimate’s eastern conference finals. The catch was on SportsCenter’s Top Plays on Monday night.
“It was just outstanding all the way around,’’ Whitecaps general manager David Kucherlapati said of the catch by email. “Not only does he easily beat his defender but he’s able to make an incredibly difficult catch and keep his composure to make a fairly difficult throw for the score in traffic.’’
Montgomery-Butler, a Northampton native, popped up from the turf and made a quick, heads-up assist to Teddy Browar-Jarus for the score.

After starting the season 0-2 and losing to the Spinners in the season opener, the Whitecaps were an unlikely candidate to make the the MLU Championship. But they peaked at the right time. In the championship game in Philadelphia on Aug. 8, they’ll chase their second title in three years, when they face Seattle Rainmakers. Whitecaps head coach Sam Rosenthal has begun watching tape of a talented Seattle team.
He said: “[The Rainmakers] have some of the game’s truly elite players with a deep supporting cast.’’
