You can’t not root for 15 year-old Cole Hammer in the U.S. Open
15 year-old Cole Hammer is the third youngest golfer ever to compete in the U.S. Open, and he captured everyone’s hearts before even hitting his opening tee shot.

Hammer fought back tears on the tenth tee at Chambers Bay, visibly moved by the opportunity he earned when he shot rounds of 64 and 68 at a sectional qualifier in Dallas to punch his ticket to the toughest tournament in golf. He kept his composure and made par on the tenth hole, his first hole of the day.
Hammer, who’s nickname “Hammer time’’ is already among the best in golf, played nine holes Monday with his idol and fellow Texan Jordan Spieth.
If you can’t root for Hammer to win the tournament, that’s fine. He begins the second round 12 shots off the lead after shooting a first round 77 and it will take a great second round for him to even make the cut.
But you should be rooting for him to make the cut. With his father Greg on the bag this week as his caddie, a Father’s Day together on Sunday at the U.S. Open would have a lot more people fighting to keep their emotions together.
