Watch U.S. defender make amazing goal-line save at Women’s World Cup

Hope Solo may be “the best goalkeeper in the world,’’ but she wasn’t the U.S. player who came up with the biggest save in team’s second game at the 2015 Women’s World Cup.

With the U.S. women’s national team deadlocked 0-0 with Sweden in a Group D match Friday, defender Meghan Klingenberg cleared a shot off the goal line in the 77th minute. The shortest player on the U.S. roster, the 5-foot-2 Klingenberg was positioned on the goal line when Sweden’s Caroline Seger unleashed an on-target shot that Solo had no chance of denying. Klingenberg got her head to the ball, deflecting it off the crossbar and out of danger.

“I know when Hope slides across, I need to tuck in to cover her back. That’s what I did and luckily I was able to get my head on it and save it off the line,’’ Klingenberg told ESPN after the game.

The save proved crucial as match ended in a scoreless draw. The result kept the U.S. atop Group D:
