Celtics work out prospect with Bruins tattoo
The Boston Celtics plan to work out about 100 prospects prior to the NBA Draft on June 25—but only one with a Bruins tattoo.
Gerard Coleman, who tried out for the Celtics in Waltham on Friday, sports the spoked-B ink on his left shoulder.
Austin Ainge, the team’s personnel director, said it was a first.
“We like to help local guys out when we can,’’ he told reporters, according to the Providence Journal. “I think he may be the first guy we’ve had in for a draft workout that had a Boston Bruins tattoo.’’
A Mattapan native, Coleman played ball at West Roxbury High and the Tilton School in New Hampshire, before stints at Providence College, Gonzaga and Georgetown College (an NAIA school in Kentucky).
As for his tattoo? Coleman said he’s actually always been more of a Celtics fan.
“I’m just an all-Boston guy,’’ he said, according to NESN. “I don’t really watch hockey games, but when (the Bruins) make it far in the playoffs—you know what I mean? Boston pride.’’
Coleman is expected to go undrafted on June 25. The Celtics have picks No. 16 and 28 in the first round, and No. 33 and 45 in the second round.
