Harvard Beats Yale to Advance to Fourth Straight NCAA Tournament

Harvard head coach Tommy Amaker cuts down the net after the Crimson topped Yale to win the Ivy League AP

It must be nice to be a senior basketball player at Harvard. The Crimson had been to the NCAA Tournament just once before this class showed up (in 1946 no less), but Harvard is now going dancing for a fourth straight season.

Steve Moundou-Missi – one of the seven seniors part of the historic class – made the big shot Saturday to give Harvard the 53-51 lead over Yale with just seconds left in the game. Yale’s Javier Duren got a decent look at the buzzer, but his runner rimmed out, and the Crimson knocked off their rivals to win the Ivy League.

It looked like Yale would unseat Harvard as the league champion this year, but Dartmouth knocked off the Bulldogs last week to set up a winner-take-all at the historic Palestra. Harvard’s reaction to the Dartmouth victory showed just how much the league crown meant.

The Crimson have won Tournament games each of the last two seasons, upsetting New Mexico in 2013 and knocking off Cincinnati last year. Harvard’s first opponent will be revealed Sunday.
