Proof Being a Boston Sports Fan is the Best Right Now

This isn’t your father’s tortured sports town anymore. It’s the age of “Sign Kid’’ in Boston.

The Patriots have established themselves as the dominant franchise in the NFL, overcoming scandals and opponents en route to four Super Bowl wins since the 2001 season. The Red Sox’ “Curse’’ has gone the way of the Bambino with three World Series championships since 2004. Since that first Patriots’ Super Bowl win, both the Celtics and Bruins chimed in with titles too.

Perhaps no one embodies the new normal for Boston sports better than the 13-year-old fan known on Twitter as “Sign Kid.’’ Apparently becoming a fixture at the city’s championship celebrations, his years of fandom have been a parade of parades:

As his increasingly iconic placard points out, Boston’s NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL teams have celebrated nine professional sports championships since 2001. That is more than double the four championships won by New York’s Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets, Rangers and Islanders cominbed during that same span.
