In Latest College Hockey Polls, Harvard Jumps Up to No. 5
Having rattled off six straight wins, Harvard men’s hockey is making a name for itself on the national stage.
The Crimson has moved up to the No. 5 spot in the latest USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. Their USCHO.com ranking is up four spots from last week and just three weeks removed from not appearing in the top-20.
Harvard took down No. 1 BU and No. 4 UMass Lowell in consecutive games in the final week of November. After beating Princeton and Quinnipiac on the road on back-to-back nights last weekend, they were rewarded with this week’s ranking.
The Crimson are 9-1-2 on the season, with their only loss coming at the hands of Yale on Nov. 15. They are 3-0-1 against top-10 teams, including a road win at No. 1 BU and a tie against defending NCAA champion Union.
Harvard has been led by senior goaltender Steve Michalek, who has played all 12 games and has a goals against average of 1.72, while posting a .944 save percentage. Junior forward Jimmy Vesey leads the team in scoring with nine goals and 17 total points, while fellow junior Kyle Criscuolo, sophomore Alexander Kerfoot, and senior Patrick McNally each have tallied 15 points.
Other local teams in the USCHO.com top-20 include No. 2 BU, No. 8 UMass Lowell, No. 10 Vermont, No. 16 BC, No. 18 Providence, and No. 19 Merrimack. BU, Vermont, and BC each moved up one spot from the last poll, while UMass Lowell and Merrimack each slid down one. Providence dropped two spots after splitting two games with Northeastern last week.
