For the first time since 2007, the New England Revolution will play for the MLS Cup.

The Revs took down the New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference Final after their 2-2 draw on Saturday gave New England an edge in aggregate goals, 4-3. The Revs will travel to face either the LA Galaxy or the Seattle Sounders in MLS Cup 2014 on Dec. 7.

Charlie Davies scored twice for the Revolution, in the 41st and 70th minutes. Both goals came after New York took a lead in the game, going up by scores of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by Tim Cahill in the 26th minute and Pegguy Luyindula in the 52d minute, respectively.

The Revs held a one-score advantage in away goals entering the game, but after the Red Bulls scored for the second time on Saturday, New England needed a tying score in regulation to clinch a spot in the finals.

The Red Bulls had several chances to retake the lead in the final minutes, including a great chance by Thierry Henry in the 88th minute, but Revs’ goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth came up with a huge save on the New York striker.

This is the fifth time the Revs will appear in the MLS Cup but they’ve yet to win a championship. They lost to the Galaxy in their first appearance in 2002, while also falling to LA in 2005. The Revs lost the 2006 and 2007 MLS Cups to the Houston Dynamo.
