Harvard men’s ice hockey had such a good time upsetting Boston College two weeks ago that they decided to take down the Eagles’ Comm. Ave neighbors as well.

Matched up with No. 1 ranked Boston University on Tuesday, the Crimson bested the Terriers 3-2 in overtime on a goal with less than two minutes left in the extra session.

Kyle Criscuolo scored the game-winner for Harvard, beating BU goalie Matt O’Connor at 3:10 in overtime. It was Criscuolo’s second goal of the contest, having netted a power play goal to give Harvard a 2-1 lead in the second period.

Harvard’s Alexander Kerfoot and Patrick McNally had two assists each, while Jimmy Vesey tallied a goal and an assist in the win. Matt Lane and Ahti Oksanen scored for BU, with J.J. Piccinich, Cason Hohmann, Brandon Hickey, and Danny O’Regan getting an assist each.

In the loss, BU freshman Jack Eichel saw his 10-game point streak snapped; his 19 points this season tie him with RIT’s Matt Garbowsky for the NCAA lead. Eichel is projected to be one of the top-2 picks in this year’s upcoming NHL Entry Draft, along with Canadian Connor McDavid.

BU was playing their first game since taking over the No. 1 ranking in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, moving up from No. 3/2 last week. They began the year at No. 20 in the USCHO.com poll, but had lost only one game entering the night – a 2-1 loss at the hands of Providence on Nov. 1.

BU entered the night tied with Vermont for the Hockey East lead; Vermont’s 3-1 win over UMass gave them a two-point advantage over the Terriers in the conference standings.

Harvard improved to 6-1-2 with the win; they’re currently tied for second in the ECAC standings, two points behind conference leader Quinnipiac.
