Fan With Jim Boeheim Tattoo Thinks the Coach Might Like That He Cares

A 28-year-old Syracuse basketball fan filled the 10-inch space below his left knee with a tattoo of the university’s longtime coaching icon, Jim Boeheim. Rich Miner got the tattoo this week, according to Syracuse.com. The tattoo is a likeness of Boeheim in his typical coaching attire, a suit and tie.

Miner grew up in Syracuse a short trip from the Carrier Dome, where the team plays. His father spent time working at the arena as a ticket-taker, according to the story.

“Walking in the Dome at a young age you’re blown away,’’ Miner said. “It’s just getting caught up in the moment of Syracuse basketball. Ever since I was old enough to remember I’ve been a Syracuse fan. So why not Jim Boeheim?’’

The tattoo took a little over three hours to complete.

“At first I thought it was kind of stupid,’’ his girlfriend Lyndsay Corrado said. “He’s been talking about it forever. I was like, ‘Why? Why would you get someone else’s face?’ But he really is a die-hard fan. It makes sense.’’

Boeheim made a joke (above) about the tattoo to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, but you’ve got to think the coach is a little freaked out given that this guy lives near where he works.

“I’d like to meet up with Jim Boeheim and show him,’’ Miner said. “Maybe he’d say it was a horrible picture. Typical Boeheim. I think he’d be a little taken aback, but at the same time, ‘Oh wow, someone actually cares enough about me to get a portrait put on them as a tattoo.’ “
