‘Lights’ out

Mad Men has the acting. The Office – in ye olden years at least – had the writing. But no show currently on TV combined the two with such a compelling ferocity as Friday Night Lights, which ends its run on NBC tonight.

Sure there were bumps (Hello, Tyra-Landry murder storyline, and I hate the way the writers are ending Riggins’ character in anger) but they were far outweighed by the brilliant depiction of life in small-town Texas, all painted on the canvas of high school football. Kyle Chandler’s facial expressions are acting mastery, Taylor Kitsch’s has-been high school star character is something every town in America can say with nodding approvement is an accurate portrayal, and Connie Britton…I believe the word the kids use is, “Yowza.”

Always lauded, always underappreciated, the show will be missed dearly. And Lyla, if you’re not dating anyone in particular these days, give me a call.
