Ortweezer?
Should we expect another Opening Day concert announcement Monday?
Last April, the Red Sox and Neil Diamond announced during the home opener that the crooner would play Fenway Park later that summer. This year, while the park will already play host to Dave Matthews for two nights in May, the rumors of Phish opening their summer tour there on May 31 refuse to go away, yet with no official confirmation.
Today comes perhaps the strongest indication though that things are a go, with official Red Sox “ticket re-seller” Ace Tickets confirming the show on its blog.
Phish’s May 31st gig at Fenway Park has been confirmed! Right after Dave Matthews Band rocks the Fens on May 29th and 30th, jam band legends Phish will headline their own show! This is the first time there will be two shows at Fenway in one year, and will kick off the band’s 2009 Summer tour!
The Sox don’t return home until June 6, so that gives the grounds crew ample time to clean up whatever mess is left after a trio of concerts on the Fenway lawn. But here’s hoping that if they are waiting until Monday to make the announcement, we don’t see the boys jamming it out with Wally on the Jumbotron, much like Diamond did in an odd rendition of “Sweet Caroline” complete with Tom Werner. Then again, Fishman has been known to carry a Diamond tune, so maybe a Caroline rendition isn’t out of the question.
