Are the Red Sox winning Connecticut back?

The annual Quinnipiac poll, aimed at drawing the boundaries in the state’s constant inner turmoil reveals (surprise) more Yankees fans than Red Sox fans reside in the sixth New England state, but that the amount of Red Sox fans is growing.

According to the Hartford Courant, the poll “indicated that 43 percent of Connecticut residents who said they are somewhat interested or very interested in baseball identify themselves as Yankees fans, with 37 percent Red Sox fans and 10 percent Mets fans.

“Fifty-six percent of those surveyed indicated interest in baseball, with 44 percent saying they weren’t interested. Interest has risen in recent years: It was 53 percent to 47 percent in 2003.”

In 2003, Quinnipiac results also showed 47 percent Yankees fans to 33 percent Red Sox fans, most of those, of course, in the eastern half of the state.

Victory? Uh, hardly. It’s still a very much Yankee state. Consider that polling was done from May 2-7 , with the Red Sox hanging on to what is now an 8 1/2 –game lead over the free-falling Yankees. So, consider that a four percent bandwagon factor more than anything.
